The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nasarawa State Command, has engaged the services of 2,000 volunteers in its efforts to boost security in the state at yuletide.
Lawan Bashir-Kano, the NSCDC State Commandant, told newsmen in Lafia on Saturday that the volunteers would be added to 1,800 officers of the command in the state.
He said that the decision to engage the volunteers was in line with the directive of the NSCDC Commandant to pay adequate attention to flash point areas with high security risks.
According to the State Commandant, the command will also carry out special patrol to some areas that are prone to Fulani herdsmen’s attack.
He said the command’s medical and disaster response team had been placed on standby to respond to any emergency during the Christmas period.
“I assure the public of the corps’ determination to respond promptly to any intelligent reports and act timely in order to avoid damage of any kind,’’ he said.
Bashir-Kano, however, implored the public to be more vigilant and cooperate with the corps.
“We call on the public to feed us with useful information about any suspicious person, movement or activity for our prompt action,’’ he said.
He urged residents of the state to use this festive period for sober reflection and pray God for the peace and development of the state and the entire country.
