Honourable Muhammad Umar Jega representing Aliero Gwandu Jega constituency in Birnin-Kebbi has cleared the air on the rumour that he has defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC)to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jega, in a statement on Friday and made available to newsmen in Birnin-Kebbi, said: “I’m still a bonafide member of the APC.
“This is to clarify that I haven’t decamped from APC and I won the Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency APC primary election for the 2023 general elections.
“I will contest the parliamentary election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
“All stories/allegations that suggested I have decamped from the APC to another party are unfounded and didn’t emanate from me.
“I cannot disappoint my people and delegates who voted for me during the primary election.”
Jega, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Internally Displaced Persons, Migrants and Refugees, added that he hadn’t dumped the APC, and had no intention of defecting to any political party.
There was crisis among top party members of APC in the state after the just concluded party congress and primary elections in Kebbi
Following the crisis, Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi and Senator Adamu Aliero (APC Kebbi North and Central) defected to the PDP in the state.
Hon Muhammad Umar Jega was born in 1970. He is an indigene of Jega Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Nigeria.
He is an architect, politician and lawmaker representing Gwandu/Aliero/Jega Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives
