Ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the country, the governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun has threatened to arrest anybody trying to intimidate or harrass voters on election day in the state.
Abiodun reminded his political opponents that he’s still the governor of the state and possesses such power to effect such arrest.
According to him, political thugs are being imported into the state to disrupt elections and intimidate electorates.
In a veiled reference to former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Hon. Ladi Adebutu, Abiodun reminded them that his gentility must not be mistaken for cowardice.
The governor told his supporters not to allow anybody to intimidate them, saying he is in charge of governance in the state.
The Iperu born politician made this statement while addressing his supporters in his home town on Monday.
Speaking in Yoruba, he said: “Don’t allow anybody to intimidate you on election day. I am sure you know that I am the governor, I am the governor of this state. I am the Chief Security Officer of this state and I can arrest anybody, anybody!
“They (opponents) can be grandstanding here and there, but it is vanity. You know I’m a gentleman. But like they say, the gentility of a tiger is not a symbol of timidity.
“I learnt some people have started importing thugs into Iperu, If I lay my hands on them, I’ll deal with them and their thugs severely.”
Abiodun and Adebutu, his main rival in the governorship race are both indigenes of Iperu – Remo in Ogun state.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the new date date for the Gubernatorial and State Assembly election is now March 18 2023.
