Five Nigerian strikers making waves in Europe

Many Nigerian forwards plying their trade abroad have really made significant impact playing for their European clubsides in the current campaign.

These players have practically painted Europe with goals.

For the first time in a long while many of them are among the contenders of golden boot award in their various leagues in Europe.

TheNewsGuru brings you some of the Nigerian lads painting European club sides with goals in the 2022/23 football season.

Victor Osimhen

He’s unarguably Nigeria’s most prolific goal poacher at the moment. The Ajegunle- bred striker has notched in 10 goals for Napoli already in the top flight Italian Serie A this season.

He presently tops the scorers’ chart with ten goals while his clubside Napoli tops the league standing  with 44 points from 17 games,

Osimhen  averages 0.89 goals per game for Napoli in the Serie A. He also averages 12 passes per match with a pass completion rate 0f 74 %

Osimhen joined Napoli in n 2020, and has three years left on the €4.5m deal he signed with the club and he could earn around €6.5m with the renewal plans.

Victor Osimhen has been presented with the Globe Soccer Emerging Player of the Year award.

The award was presented to him in Naples on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old beat Barcelona star, Gavi and Real Madrid midfielder, Federico Valverde to the award.

He has been linked with a number of top clubs in Europe with English clubside, Manchester United planning to acquire his services.

However, the gangling Nigerian forward has rejected Manchester United offer to join them in January transfer window to focus on his career at Napoli.

Paul Onuachu

Ebere Paul Onuachu is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays for Belgian club Genk and the Nigeria national team, as a forward.

Paul Onuachu is a 28-year-old striker who hails from Nigeria, where he has 16 international caps.

Onuachu has been in prolific form for Genk this season, boasting 14 goals in 16 Jupiler Pro League appearances, plus one goal in the cup.

Genk signed Onuachu from Danish side Midtjylland in 2019, where he scored 74 goals in 181 games.

He has scored at an even more frequent rate in Belgium, netting 83 goals in 130 matches for Genk.

Onuachu has six goals in his last four games, which included scoring all four goals in Genk’s 4-1 win over Charleroi in November.

Onuachu  is the Nigerian leading forward in Europe this season with 14 goals from 16 games.

Ademola Lookman

Olajade Alade Aylola Lookman (born 20 October 1997) is a professional footballer who plays as a winger for Serie A club Atalanta and the Nigeria national team.

Ademola Lookman averages 17 passes per match with a pass completion rate of 80%, and has 1 assist. Ademola Lookman has received 1 yellow card and 0 red cards.

Lookman last appeared in a Serie A game on January 4, playing 57 minutes for Atalanta versus Spezia in a 2-2 draw.

The 25-year-old has netted seven goals this Serie A season, which ranks him joint fifth overall in this category in 2022/2023, while also making him the top league scorer for his side. In addition, he has chipped in with one assist as well. He has been shown a yellow card twice.

Terrem Moffi

Teremas “Terem” Igobor Moffi is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Lorient and the Nigeria national team.

On form Nigerian forward Terem Moffi is hot like fire banging in goals on a regular for his French Ligue 1 clubside Lorient FC.

He’s  one of the forwards making waves in the French Ligue 1

Terem has scored 10 games in 15 appearances for Lorient and is presently being sought after by Southampton FC of England.

However, the 23-year –old is yet to make a mark with his goals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria but he’s scored a couple of goals in the few games he has played.

 Taiwo Awoniyi

The Nottingham forest striker has scored four premier league goals for his English Premier League clubside but three of his goals have proven to be the match winner for the clubside.

Awoniyi’s goal against Southampton helped Nottingham climb out of relegations waters in the EPL.

Awoniyi is a proven goal-scorer and if he scores regularly, Nottingham Forest can be sure of sustaining their place in the English top-tier.

The gangling striker has been the first to score in a game that he’s involved in on four occassions thereby coming second to Manchester City striker Erling Haaland who has managed to open the scoring five times in a game this season,
