Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, for his contribution to human development and progress at the national and international levels, has been conferred with a Honorary Doctor of Science Degree by Nigeria’s premier private university, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State
TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports The former president was conferred with the honour during the University’s 17th convocation ceremony held on Saturday, November 30, with the Nigeria’s premier private university also renaming the Igbinedion University College of Arts and Social Sciences after the Nigerian former President, who is from Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
Speaking at the event, Jonathan thanked the founder and pro-chancellor, governing council, Senate and the vice-chancellor of the Igbinedion University for the honour.
“I am grateful for this recognition as it comes years after I left office as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I always believe that the recognition one receives when he is no longer that ‘powerful man sitting in a big office’ is the one he truly deserves,” Jonathan said.

Jonathan also congratulated the graduating students and their parents and guardians just as he urged the graduates to be resilient in the pursuit of their dreams.
“I am grateful for this recognition as it comes years after I left office as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. To live your dreams you must work hard, be innovative, be courageous and be consistent on the path of honour,” the former president advised the graduates.
Also, at the ceremony, HRM, Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Kusenla III), Chairman Business International Management, Mr. Sow Bertin Agba, and Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde were conferred with honorary degrees.
A former Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Prof. Olu Aina, was conferred with the title of Professor Emeritus.
A total of 583 graduates were awarded various degrees, including Post Graduate, Masters and Ph.D students.
On the First degree category, 17 graduated with first class honour, 173 came out with second class upper, 161 bagged second class lower division while three had third class.
