The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has picked October 15, 2022, for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
This disclosure was made known by the commissioner of OSIEC, Segun Oladuntan at a press conference on Monday in Osogbo the Osun state capital.
Also, in a stakeholders’ meeting on Friday, Oladitan confirmed that the local government election would hold in October.
He also assured that it will be conducted based on the Presidential System of government as against the Parliamentary system conducted in 2018 and accordance with the Constitution, as amended by the State House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party had issued a warning to the Osun state government to desist from conducting the LG elections in the state describing it as illegality that contravenes the law.
While noting that the exercise conflicts with the provisions of the law, the Osun PDP had described the planned election as a futile effort, adding that it was an attempt to plunge the state into a further financial mess.
The party also called for Oladuntan’s arrest.
