As the investigative hearing over the whereabouts of the $300 million deposit by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC into the Polaris bank continues, the acting Managing Director Mr Innocent Ike has insisted that it has paid everything back to the corporation.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the bank during the hearing told the House panel investigating missing recovered loots that all monies deposited in the bank have been duly paid back.
But the committee in session insisted on proof of payment as NNPC is insisting that the said payment has not reflected on their balance sheet.
Expected at today’s hearing were, Polaris bank, NEXIM and the Accountant General of the Federation to address allegations of holding back funds in their custody.
The Chairman of the committee Hon. Adejoro Adeogun emphasized the mandate of the committee to look into allegations of infractions if any and to report such back to the house.
While giving his submission on the issue, the acting MD of Polaris bank Mr Innocent Ike stated clearly that the bank has paid the last sum of $32 million to NNPC but channeled it through the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The committee was however not satisfied with his submission, they wanted further proof as they took turns to grill the MD to know how and when the fund got to the bank in the first place.
All efforts by the committee to establish infractions by Polaris bank on the deposited funds were countered by the acting Managing Director prompting the committee to request for documents of all transactions from 2012 to date.
However, the allegations of financial infractions by NEXIM bank could not be substantiated owing to the fact that the case brought before the committee does not fall within its mandate.
The committee however adjourned to next week Tuesday for further hearing.
