Residents of Iju, (Ajuwon road), a sloppy community tucked in Lagos and Ogun States border were alarmed on Thursday afternoon when a loud tanker explosion rocked the area.
Before they could get their acts together, the explosion had affected a nearby gas station which instantly triggered an inferno affecting an adjoining plank market.
Over 16 people were injured. Properties worth millions of naira including parked vehicles were also destroyed.
TheNewsGuru.com, TNG observed that rescue operation didn’t commence until over 30 minutes after the inferno started.
According to the Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management agency, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu two of the injured were in critical condition.
He said they have been referred to the Lagos State General Hospital in Ikeja. The others injured were given first aid.
