The Delta Commissioner for Lands and Surveys, Mrs Kate Onianwa, says women in the state have benefitted immensely from the good governance initiatives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) driven by the Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa.
Onianwa told newsmen during the inauguration of the PDP mega rally on Saturday in Asaba.
She noted that Delta women could now have sense of belonging by actively participating in politics and through various appointments.
She said that the encouragement of women to get more involved in politics by the Okowa’s administration had led to their election as Vice Chairmen in 17 out of the 25 local governments areas in the state.
Onianwa said that women had also been appointed as Chief Judge, President, State Customary Court of Appeal; Commissioners in the state among others.
Onianwa said that the Widows Welfare Scheme programme of the Okowa’s administration had also helped in alleviating the sufferings of most women who had lost their bread winners, especially the vulnerable and economically weak ones,.
According to her, many unemployed female youths have become entrepreneurs through the job creation programmes of the state government.
The commissioner also paid tributes to former governors of the state for laying the foundation on which PDP had consolidated its enviable records of achievement in government since 1999.
Onianwa thanked the people of the state for giving Okowa the opportunity to dutifully steer the ship of state to the benefit of all.
She said Delta women would remain eternally grateful to Okowa for positively impacting on their lives and would stand by him in all fronts, including his position on who became the next governor of the state.
