Meditation verse:

“And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your  daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne  him” (Ruth 4:15).

Naomi had suffered so much pain in the land of Moab; having lost her husband  and two sons. She returned to Judah when she heard that the Lord had restored  the land from famine, with her daughter-in-law, Ruth, who insisted she must  return with her. After gleaning in the fields to provide food for herself and her  mother-in-law, Ruth ended up as the wife of a wealthy field owner, Boaz and  gave birth to a son, Obed. Obed became the father of Jesse, who became the  father of King David, the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Messiah of the world.

And the women rejoiced with Naomi and said to her “blessed be the Lord who  has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous  in Israel! And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age;  for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons,  has borne him” (Ruth 4:14-15).

If you are a covenant child, God will always preserve a remnant for you who will  be the nourisher of your old age. It may be a child, a son/daughter-in-law, a non relative whom you brought under your roof to train or even a servant who  served you and you treated with kindness. He can use the young, old, big, small,  smart, seemingly foolish, significant, or insignificant. I heard the story of a couple  who took in a young boy and trained him in school. Today, he is a grown man  with a good job outside the country. Every year, he invites the couple over for  an all-expense paid vacation. God can use just about anyone from your past.  When He says “I will carry you in old age, this is one of the ways He does so.

What’s the lesson here for us? Be kind to everyone you come across. Never treat  anyone with disdain, irrespective of how lowly they may appear at that time.  God’s ability to the turn the tides is beyond human comprehension. Secondly,  do not be an island. Extend the tent of your life to others; love, help, serve and  give to others. The good that you do today will come back to you someday.
