Semilogo Ajayi one of the Super Eagles outstanding defenders so far in the tournament has revealed that he was not present for head coach Jose Peseiro’s post-game team talk after Nigeria defeated South Africa in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tie on Wednesday because he was being drug tested by Confederation of African Football, (CAF) officials shortly after the match.
Ajayi put up a very impressive performance in the semi-final clash against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Wednesday night in Bouake.
The Super Eagles won it 4-2 on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes and extra time.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after the game, Ajayi said:
“I was not there [Peseiro’s team talk], I was getting tested so I missed everything,” he remarked.
He added, “Amazing. We came here to win, we are one step away from that now.
“As much as we need to enjoy today we need to fully focus on Sunday because we’ve got one last push to bring the Cup home to Nigeria.”
