Edwin Kibet Koech from Kenya has emerged winner of the 42-kilometres Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Kibet won the Lagos City Marathon in 2 hours and 14 minutes to claim the grand prize of $50,000.
The first Nigerian to reach the finish line is Gotheng Boyi from Jos, Plateau State.
Meanwhile, organizers of the Lagos City Marathon, Nilayo Sports Management has noted that this year’s race will serve as Olympic qualifiers to the top runners at the event
Chief Bukola Olopade, CEO of Nilayo Sports Management said the Lagos City Marathon achieved a Gold Label Status and thus qualify to serve as Olympic qualifiers.
The top runners at Lagos Marathon today automatically qualified for the Olympic games to hold in Paris, France in 2024.
TNG reports Gold-Label Access Bank Lagos City Marathon won by Kibet is the 8th edition.
The marathon began at 7 am at National Stadium, Surulere, with Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, on the sidelines for the start.
50,000 runners, local and international, participated in the marathon.
Other dignitaries at the starting point include the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Olusegun Dawodu, Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku, Head of Technical for the race, Yusuf Ali, among others.
