Unlike previous FIFA World Cups, which are typically played in June and July, the 2022 World Cup will be played in November and December to avoid the intense Qatari summer heat.
The 2022 World Cup is taking place in Qatar in the winter months rather than the usual summer ones, due to the heat. The tournament kicks off on Monday November 21 at the Al Thumama Stadium when Senegal take on the Netherlands in Group A, with England vs Iran being the second game of the tournament in Al Rayyan.
This means that the English Premier League will be on break during the WorldCup first time in the Premiership’s history.

Kevin Friend has become the latest Premier league referee to retire, causing concerns about a lack of experienced officials at the top of English football.
Friend is the latest retiree this summer, the 50-year-old taking a management role with the referees’ group, in charge of ‘Select Group Two’ referees who work in the Championship.
He joins Mike Dean, Jon Moss and Martin Atkinson in hanging up their whistles after the season ended in May, with 63 years of collective top-flight experience between them
