FA Cup: United did the unthinkable, beat City 2-1 to win trophy at Wembley

Manchester United on Saturday evening defeated Manchester City 2-1 to win the FA Cup for the second year running and thus grabbed the last qualifying spot for Europa next season.

City were the Overwhelming favourite to win but United did the unthinkable against all odds.

United opened the scoring in the 30th minute of the match. A terrible mistake led to the goal. The defender ended up losing possession, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to pick up the ball before slotting it into the back of the net.

Bruno Fernandes played a fantastic through ball and found Mainoo, who reacted quickly to get in front of the goalkeeper and fired a close-range shot into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0 few minutes before half time.

Erling Haaland missed an opportunity to put City back in the game in the 55th minute of the encounter.

In the 59th minute, Kyle Walker received a low pass just outside the box and unleashed a fine strike towards the right post. Andre Onana pulled off a reflexive save to block his effort.

Jeremy Doku eventually reduced the tally in the 87th minute of the encounter but it was too late as United defense ensured they double their effort to prevent City’s onslaught.

The result meant United have grabbed the last Europa League Spot and further pushed Chelsea to Europa Conference League.

Newcastle’s hope of featuring in next year’s continental games has been dashed with the outcome of the result.
