Newly promoted El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri triumphed over Abia Warriors with a 2-0 victory at the Mobolaji Arena Stadium, Onikan, Lagos, clinching this season’s President Federation Cup.
Both teams displayed thrilling football, with El-Kanemi Warriors earning a penalty in the 32nd minute. Although the penalty was missed, the Northerners soon took the lead with a goal a few minutes later, ending the first half 1-0.
The second half saw El-Kanemi extend their lead in the 69th minute when Nasiru Saliu capitalized on a through pass from the left wing to score the second goal.
Nasir Saliu has been credited with both goals in the encounter.
Despite Abia Warriors creating several chances to reduce the deficit, they were repeatedly denied by El-Kanemi’s goalkeeper.
As a result, the NPFL newcomers will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup alongside Enyimba.
