Everton and Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi has made a promise to Nigeria fans, begging them to forgive them after their defeat to the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau on Friday in Abuja.
Iwobi made this comment shortly after the Super Eagles lost to the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau.
Ligue 1 side Troyes forward, Mama Balde scored in the 29th minute to give the visitors the lead that eventually resulted to their first win against the visitor.
Jose Peseiro’s men have now dropped to second position in Group A following the defeat against Guinea-Bissau.
“First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result,” Iwobi told the media after the game.
“All we can do is to improve, and to all the fans, all I can say is that they should stick by us and support us because we give 100% not just for ourselves but also for our nation.
“Next time, we’re going to do our best and make the country proud.
“We know we’re privileged to wear the shirt, there are a lot of people who want to be in this position.”
The Everton player added: “I don’t think we played under pressure. Like the coach [Peseiro] said, they scored with the only chance they created in the game.”
Nigeria will now face Guinea-Bissau in the return leg on Monday.
