Henry who scored 275 league goals for Arsenal earned 15 percent of the vote ahead of five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and Newcastle icon Alan Shearer.

Henry who has been in Nigeria for promotional purposes a few times is affectionately called ‘Igwe’ by his adoring Nigerian fans.

The fourth place was nicked by Manchester United’s eccentric star Eric Cantona while current Aston Villa – and Liverpool legend – Steven Gerrard was fifth in the survey.

Shearer remains the Premier League’s highest goal scorer with 360 goals.

Thierry Daniel Henry is a French professional football coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the Belgium national team.
