Super Eagles forward and Real Sociedad New acquisition Umar Sadiq has ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) according to reports from his Spanish club side.
The lanky Nigerian striker was subbed out in the La Liga clash against Getafe after going down on the turf over the weekend.
Findings have shown that Sadiq could be out for a lengthy period.
Sadiq has only played just two games for new club Sociedad before sustaining the ACL injury.
A statement on the club’s official website read, “He suffered a torsion in his right knee during the Getafe-RS match, held yesterday, 09-11-2022.
“The MRI done this morning shows a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. It is a subsidiary lesion of surgical treatment. In the next few days, it will be reported.”
He walked off the pitch on his own after landing awkwardly as a result of a dribble by an opponent.
Initial reports suggested it was a minor injury but Monday morning scans show that the striker would need surgery.
Umar Sadiq Mesbah is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a forward for La Liga club Real Sociedad and the Nigeria national team. Sadiq formerly represented the Nigeria national under-23 team and was an important member of the squad that won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
