SWAN President pledges support for women league board, commends NFF

president of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Honour Sirawoo, on Friday commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the formal inauguration of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) board.

Sirawoo told sports writers at the Port Harcourt International Airport, in Port Harcourt that the inauguration of the board was a conscious effort made to give women football a sense of belonging.

He pledged the support of the SWAN to NWFL board in its effort to chart a new course for women football in Nigeria.

“I must commend the NFF for this effort. The female national teams have brought honour to this nation and we simply must take them serious through our actions. We should be proud of their achievements.

“Women form the bedrock of this nation and SWAN as an association will support every effort aimed at giving women their rightful place in national development.

“The latest initiative will erase doubts as to the seriousness of NFF about female football in the country and serve as a platform to attract sponsors and promoters,” he said.

The SWAN President congratulated the newly inaugurated board members of the NWFL and tasked them to rise to the challenges ahead.

He called on them to learn from the successes of LMC and work assiduously to bring about a new dawn in female football.

“The new NWFL board must be ready to accept constructive criticisms in the course of discharging their duties.

“We are all partners in progress and we want the best for female football and this country,” he added
