Italain side, AC Milan progressed to the Quarter-final of this year’s Champions League after holding English side, Tottenham Hotspurs to a goalless draw at London Stadium on Wednesday night.
Spurs had approached the second leg of the encounter with a 1-0 deficit and were hoping to cancel it at London stadium but failed to secure the much-needed goal to break even in the encounter.
Antonio Conte returned to the touchline following his gall bladder surgery, but this result looked like it could spell the beginning of the end for his tenure in charge, with the Italian’s contract expiring in the summer.
Milan had the first real chance of the match after 18 minutes with a free kick straight off the training ground. The ball was fed into the path of Junior Messias inside the box but the Brazilian could only drag his driven effort wide of the target. A big let off for Tottenham.
Spurs grew into the first half around the 30 minute mark but still failed to show the required quality in the final third to really test Milan. At the half time whistle, neither side had managed a shot on target.
The match eventually ended goalless as both sides failed to put the ball at the back of the net but AC Milan’s 1-0 win is enough to send them through to the round of eight.
The result meant no hopes of the English side recording any silverware this season on the domestic front and continentally.
