For the November 7 Champions League round of 16 draws, UEFA has made it clear that teams from the same country will not face each other in the round of 16, it could happen as from the quarter-finals of the competition.
Teams that finished first in their groups will face teams that emerged runners-up from other groups.
The unseeded teams for the round of 16 draws are Liverpool, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund because they finished second in their groups.
Chelsea face the prospect of facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 following the conclusion of the group stage fixtures on Wednesday.
The Blues finished top of Group E after beating Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Graham Potter’s side could face PSG in the last-16 after the French Ligue 1 champions finished runner-up in Group H.
Liverpool could be drawn with any of Bayern, Real Madrid, Porto, Benfica in the round of 16.
PSG appeared to be on course to finish top of their group, but Benfica’s 6-1 win away to Maccabi Haifa means that Christophe Galtier’s side have been forced to settle for the runners-up spot.
Also, PSG could also face Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League last-16 draw after a dramatic late twist on Wednesday evening as both Premier League clubs finished top in their respective Groups.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid finished top of Group F and joined the likes of Bayern Munich, Napoli and FC Porto in the seeded pot for the draw.
The Los Blancos could meet the likes of Liverpool, Club Bruges, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, while Tottenham could face Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, Inter Milan plus Group E, F and H runners-up.
The UEFA Champions League will resume in February 2023.
