Yellow Dots Squash competition begins March 2nd in Lagos

All is now set for the commencement of Yellow Dots squash tournament slated for the Squash court of the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos.

The week -long squash event will begin on March 2nd and will run till 9th of March, 2024.

Mr Femi Bankole the tournament’s organizing committee chairman, said that the event is meant to serve two purposes, adding that it will avail professional and non-professional squash players get involved in the one week event.

He noted that tournament of this nature allows for spotting, nurturing and grooming of talents that could go a long way to represent Nigeria at international competitions.

Bankole made this known while addressing media men at a press conference held in Lagos.

According to Bankole, those who have interest in squash and are  above the age 16 will be involved while the professionals among them will use the tournament to improve their ratings in world rankings.

Continuing, he said, the the tournament has been rated tour 3 by the professional Squash Association, (PSA) saying the tournament could set a tone for much higher rankings by PSA.

Similarly, the chairman of Yellow Dots Squash Club, Sola Adekunle mentioned that it’s the first time that Squash will be giving out a massive 800,000 as prize money.

He added that a total of $6,000 has been earmarked for the competition and over 160 players drawn from different states of the federation will be involved in the tournament.

He said further that, winners for both male and female category will go home with N800,000 while the runners-up will be given the sum of N500,000 each.

There are also prize money for each participant that would be involved in the tournament.

Meanwhile, number one female and male squash players in the country, Rofiat AbdulAzeez and Gabriel said they expect to see talents at the competition, assuring that the tournament promises to be top notch.
