Kano State Government is set to provide free health services to about 3.6 million children and 600,000 women during this year’s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW). Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Tsanyawa, disclosed this on Friday at a news conference, ahead of the exercise, scheduled to begin on Monday. Tsanyawa said that the exercise would be conducted in all the local government areas across the state from Jan. 9 to Jan. 13. According to him, the MNCHW campaign will cover effective maternal and child health interventions, such as vitamin A supplementation, de-worming and nutritional assessments. “Free antenatal care drugs will be distributed to children and pregnant women in more than 1,300 health facilities,’’ he said. He, however, appealed to parents and care givers to make effective use of the opportunity and access the services at the facilities close to them. The commissioner commended the state government, development partners and the media for their support to ensure a healthy state, especially as it affected children.
