In efforts to take personal assistance to a whole new level, Daptly has launched a display that is dubbed the Smart Mirror, which the company behind it says can manage your life.
Daptly Display, otherwise known as Smart Mirror is “a smart, gesture and voice controlled display that manages your life and seamlessly blends beauty and technology into your home or office”.
Personal Assistants are seeing increased adoption in all demographics. According to the 2017 Accenture Digital Consumer Survey, 46% of US consumers are using voice-enabled digital assistants, and 70% of people aged 18-34 are either already using or are interested in using a voice assistant.
However, consumers can get frustrated with a voice only interface that provides no visual responses or cues.
Daptly believes that digital assistants should be able to not only speak answers to you, but should have a display to show better information and more intuitive instructions to make the experience easier and more satisfying.
“Interaction shouldn’t just be limited to voice, but should still be controllable from across the room – which is why we’ve built a completely new interface with gesture recognition that allows for controlling the display with your hands from a distance,” a press statement by the company read.
The company said on its website that the Smart Mirror is built in a way that feels seamless and unobtrusive by defaulting to an aesthetically pleasing mirror or picture frame when it’s not being used.
The Daptly Display features a fog-resistant mirror that can be used as a Picture Frame. All a user has to do, is to upload images straight from a mobile device or search from Daptly collection of over 50,000 pictures.
The Daptly Display comes equipped with key features that enable it to recognize who is in front of it and to only display information that a user care about.
“So in the morning it can show you news and traffic updates and the kids can walk by to see their chores for the week,” the company said.
Users have the ability to “control all smart devices in one place, create routines that automatically control devices like lights and thermostat, depending on time of day, people at home, and the weather outside”.
The Daptly Display also comes equipped with a fully functional Amazon Alexa inside.
“Sign in to your Amazon account and ask Alexa to play music, hear the news, check weather, control your smart home, and more,”. Daptly instructed, adding: “We integrate with IFTTT so you can do more with the services you already use”.
While K. C. Beard led the software efforts, Max Randall led the hardware efforts. “It’s a perfect blend of technology when you need it and regularity when it’s off,” the founders said.
