Nigerian pop stars, Burna Boy and Tems, were among the nominees for the 65th annual Grammy Awards announced on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old singer and songwriter (Tems) bagged two nominations. First, she was nominated alongside Future and Drake in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category for the song, ‘Wait for U’. She was also nominated in the Best Rap Song category.
Tems, whose full name is Temilade Openiyi, also received a nomination for being part of Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ album.
The album was nominated in the Album of the Year category.
In the same vein, Grammy award winner (Burna Boy) bagged double nominations in the forthcoming 2023 Grammy Awards.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that the highly celebrated award show would take place on Feb. 5, 2023, in Los Angeles.
Burna Boy was nominated in the “Best Global Music Performance” category for his “Last Last” single alongside; Arooj Aftab and Anoushka, Matt B and Eddy Kenzo, Rocky Dawuni featuring Blvk H3ro, Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode.
He also bagged a nomination in the “Best Global Music Album” album for his “Love, Damini” Album, alongside; Berklee Indian Ensemble, Angélique Kidjo and Ibrahim Maalouf, Anoushka Shankar, Metropole Orkest and Jules Buckley featuring Manu Delago and Masa Takumi.
This comes days after he won ‘Best African Act’ at the MTV EMAS 2022.
Beyonce led all contenders with nine nominations, followed by rapper Kendrick Lamar with eight, and pop diva Adele and balladeer Brandi Carlile tied at seven each.
Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z are now tied as the most nominated artists in Grammys history, with 88 each.
