The United States District Court for the Central District of California has postponed the judgment day of internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi ti the 3rd of November, 2022.
Hushpuppi was initially billed for sentence on the 19th of September 2022 but the judge has now postponed his judgment day again.
Judge Otis D. Wright in Los Angeles said Mr Abbas will now be sentenced on the new date based on the court’s own motion.
Prosecutors had opposed delaying the sentencing any further than September 19, arguing that Mr Abbas and his lawyers had prior knowledge of all related matters in the case and were only out to delay and frustrate the judicial process.
However, the defence counsel, Louis Shapiro said the prosecutors are trying to railroad the judge into sentencing his client despite having some outstanding issues.
He added that the prosecutuion counsel aren’t showing compassion and trying to influnce the judgment by trying to see that an 11 years jail term is slapped on Hushpuppi.
Recall that Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in June 2020, and subsequently flown to the U.S.
He pleaded guilty to the charges in July 2021 and was ordered to remain in custody pending sentencing.
Hushpuppi admittance of guilt in the case has help lessen the weight of the crime ha has been accused of.
The sentence hearing was initially moved by Judge Wright from February 14 to July 11 and then to September 19 at the counsel’s request.
Report says that Hushpuppi has comported himself in an orderly manner in Prison thereby earning him one of the best behaved in custody.
