Notorious American gangster convicted of 19 murders was found dead in his cell. He was 89 years old and was serving a life sentence.

During his life, he was the leader of the Winter Hill Gang in the Boston area whose life was portrayed in the movies Black Mass and The Departed. Police reveal that his death is being treated as a homicide, the third this year at the prison he was in.
He was on the FBI Most Wanted List along with Osama bin Laden and escaped arrest for 16 years and had a bounty of $2million on his head.
His is one of the most enduring myths in American crime. From his peak in the 1980s to the 1990s, Bulger was responsible for a wave of organized crime that included extortion, arms and drugs trafficking. He was indicted in late 1994 and fled as information came that he was going to be arrested. He would be on the run for the next two decades.
His life provided the folklore on which several works of arts were based on.
In 2015, Johnny Depp played him the movie Black Mass. Earlier, Martin Scorcese’s adaptation of his life in The Departed won four Oscars at the 2007 Academy Awards.
He was arrested in 2011 at the age of 81 along with his long-term girlfriend Catherine Greig and convicted on 19 counts of murder.
