A Nigerian husband, Prince Ovwiomodiowho who tragically lost his wife and their newborn son has filed a petition with the Inspector -General of Police, Kayode Egbetoku, regarding his late wife missing uterus and his baby’s placenta.
Ovwiomodiowho, a registered nurse anesthetist, publicly criticized the hospital, alleging that their deaths could have been prevented if the staffs of the hospital had performed their duties correctly.
Recounting the ordeal, the registered nurse recounted how his wife, Loveth Oviwiomodiowho endured a two day labour at R-jolad hospital situated in Orile-Agege, Lagos State.
According to Ovwiomodiowho, his wife was under the care of Dr. Marcus Mbakwe, the consultant obstetrician, who she had been seeing throughout her pregnancy.
He said that his who had given birth in 2020 and was in good health with no known medical history.
However, in March 7, 2024, she went into labour and was subsequently taken to the hospital where the situal took a turn for the worse.
He said, when they arrived at the hospital, Dr. Marcus did not examine his wife before instructing the junior doctor to initiate induction, resulting in complications. He added that there was a delay in taking his wife to the theatre for a Cesarean section despite her experiencing difficulties during vaginal birth.
He said that the baby passed away after experiencing prolonged birth asphyxia due to delayed interventions.
“I shouted and screamed, asking for Dr Marcus the consultant. I could not get answer from anyone,” he said
Oviwiomodiowho’s wife suffered huge blood loss with litres of the patient’s blood on the floor of the theatre as doctors worked to save her.
She eventually died on March 8, 2024.
Oviwiomodiowho is calling on the government to take action against the hospital
