Many Nigerians, especially supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari have taken to social media to celebrate the 77th birthday of the president, with Aisha Buhari, wife of the president, one of those who have written, what could pass for an epistle, to honour the president.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) President Buhari, who a national newspapers has vowed to refer to as General Muhammadu Buhari over controversies surrounding his government, is the twenty-third child of his father.
Raised by his mother after his father died when he was about four years old, he was born to a Fulani family on 17 December 1942 in Daura, Katsina State, to his father Hardo Adamu, a Fulani chief, and mother Zulaihat.
He is a retired major general in the Nigerian Army and previously served as the nation’s head of state from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985, after taking power in a military coup d’état.
He unsuccessfully ran for the office of president of Nigeria in the 2003, 2007, and 2011 general elections. In December 2014, he emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the March 2015 general elections. Buhari won the election, defeating the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan, marking the first time in the history of Nigeria that an incumbent president lost to an opposition candidate in a general election.
Buhari was sworn in on 29 May 2015. In February 2019, Buhari was re-elected President, defeating his closest rival Atiku Abubakar by over 3 million votes.
However, Buhari’s government has not been far from one controversy or the other, and following his emergence as president, terms such as Wailers, those in opposition to the president, and Hailers, those in support of the president, have cropped up.
As the President marks his 77th birthday, both wailers and hailers have taken to social media to express divergent opinions about the president.

Compromise in the face of attacks from yesterday’s men fraudulently posing as ‘activists’ and ‘democrats’ is not an option. Having failed to defeat you at the polls, they now cowardly congregate around anything perceived as nuisance to you. Keep standing firm. Happy birthday, PMB pic.twitter.com/r9dmlGZWTB

Despite huge challenges, Nigeria has made real progress under President Buhari's watch. He has steadied the "ship of state" and placed the country irreversibly on the path to sustainable growth and development. He is tackling corruption with zeal.

I wish him a happy birthday, but in three year's time, he'll be 80 years old. I.e. he'll be Nigeria's first octogenarian president (we are talking official age here).
Those who want him to do a third term do not mean well for Nigeria.#PMBAt77

Happy birthday to a faux integrity and honest president.
A retrogressive, tyrant and dictator. A man who came to power no with plan other than to borrow with reckless abandon and loot the borrowed loans.
May God run your life the way you are running Nigeria.#PMBAt77 pic.twitter.com/QEOyH1DMCL
