A former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly using the police to intimidate him ahead of the 2018 governorship election in the state.
Omisore said this in a statement in Osogbo on Monday in his reaction to the invitation sent to him by the police based on the allegation that he and others assaulted the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke shortly before the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2014.
He said the police invitation might not be unconnected with the role he played in the defeat suffered by the APC candidate during the July 8 Osun West Senatorial District by-election which was won by Adeleke’s sibling, Ademola.

The statement partly reads, “Some powerful interests in the ruling All Progressives Congress are apparently working with the Nigeria Police or some of their officers to realise their sinister plot against me.
“A few days ago, I received a very curious but interesting invitation, claiming to be from the Osun State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and signed by one Deputy Commissioner of Police Umege Uzochukwu.
“In the invitation, I was asked to report to the said DCP Uzochukwu that the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, had reported a case of assault against me to them. And I wondered when Senator Adeleke (may God rest his soul) made the report as no date was given in the said invitation. The police invitation letter was dated October 20, 2017.”
Responding to the allegation, the spokesperson for the APC in Osun State, Kunle Oyatomi, debunked the claims of Omisore, saying the APC had nothing to do with his invitation by the police.
