Governor Godwin Obaseki formal declaration for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Friday has finally nailed the coffin of godfatherism in the state and it has sent a strong signal across Nigeria that Edo is not Lagos State.
After several consultative meetings with various stakeholders in the major opposition party in Nigeria, the PDP, Obaseki on Friday decided to finally hold the bull by the horns by his latest action.
As at Thursday night, several supporters of the governor had besieged the Secretariat of PDP in Benin City waiting for his arrival from Abuja.
The long wait was not wasted as Obaseki by Friday afternoon appeared at the Secretariat where he formally declared for the party.
This singular development has sent a strong signal to the All Progressives Congress, APC leadership that what was done in Lagos by the Asiwaju of Lagos, Ahmed Tinubu can never be replicated in Edo State.
Obaseki who formally resigned from the ailing APC on Tuesday alongside his deputy, Phillip Shaibu, 14lawmakers and 18 local government chairmen is considered a dangerous move that threw the APC into unlimited confusion.
Within 24hours after dumping the APC four acting chairmen emerged and the Arrowhead of the confusion, Adams Oshiomhole was sacked by an Appeal Court as chairman.
Thereafter, Victor Giadom using the instrument of the judiciary from no where became the acting National chairman cancelling the screening Committee Report that disqualified Obaseki.
He quickly put a structure in place calling for fresh screening of all aspirants in the party.
The National Working Committee, NWC sat and quickly announced ailing former governor of Oyo, Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the acting National chairman.
Since Obaseki left, APC has remained in tatters enmeshed in a web of confusion indicating that its days of total collapse is nearby.
