History is about to be made in Nigeria football as former Nigerian goalie, Dele Aiyenugba, and his son, Daniel will be in between the sticks at the opposing end when Kwara United face Beyond Limits Football Academy in the first semi-final of the Value Jet pre-season tournament in Ikenne on Tuesday (today).
Kwara united finished second in Group A to set up the clash against the academy boys, who finished top of group B which had 3SC, Rivers United and Abia Warriors.
Daniel Aiyenugba’s heroics between the sticks for his clubside, Beyond Limits have been applauded by football analysts and fans.
He made fantastic saves to help his team earn points from Rivers United, Abia Warriors and 3SC at the ongoing Value Jet pre-season tournament.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Aiyenugba, confirmed it would be the first meeting against his 15-year-old son and described it as a game of his life despite being a preparatory tournament for the incoming Nigeria Professional Football League season.
“I am really looking forward to it. It should be a great game. I have watched him do great stuff against teams; it will be a dream come true to see him play against me in a tournament of this magnitude. Whatever happens, I’ll be a proud father again,” Aiyenugba told PUNCH Sports Extra.
Aiyenugba’s son, Daniel, started making the news in 2021 at the age of 12, after winning the goalkeeper of the tournament award at the Ramat Cup in Kano.
Equally good in stopping spot kicks like his father, the 15-year-old attributed his development to his father’s influence.
“I watch a lot of video clips of my dad, even up till now. After watching him too, anytime he comes home during their off season, he does his goalkeeping training on the same pitch with me and my brother,” he told our correspondent.
In the other semi-final also billed for today, Remo Stars will faceoff against 3SC as the winners meet in Thursday’s final.
