Lagos community residents raise concern over increasing rate of homosexuality

Community residents within Shomolu axis of Lagos have raised concern against rate at which young men and women were engaging in homosexuality in the area, the acts they claimed was becoming alarming among youths in the community.

They said that government at all level, particularly Lagos State Government, needs to come into action such that would bring eradication of such ideology among young men and women in the axis.

Through the raised concerned, it was learnt that the rise of homosexuality and lesbianism had taking a new dimension especially in some of the state’s communities including Shomolu, Akoka, and Bariga, and that should the state government is not proactive in curbing the rise of the act as it could totally go out of hand and spread into the nooks and crannies of the state.

Information within the communities disclosed that homosexual had become norms among young men and women of ages between 18 and 30 years old. A source who is a member of Police Community Relations Committee in the area told our correspondent that openly homosexuality display was gaining more grounds especially in Shomolu and Akoka despite government pronouncements against the practices.

He hinted that on Friday, Valentine’s day two male homosexuals were caught in the act at a house in Morocco Road, Shomolu as they were seriously beaten by the guys in the area but were lucky to be rescued by an army officer from the Nigerian Army Sport Camp close to the scene who pleaded for them to go as they would have been lynched. He said the police needed to intensify their efforts in arresting these people in order to curb these barbaric acts in the area.

The source said there are different cases of these acts and he still recalled with a shock expression, how a gay suspect named Tola Adeosun who lives on his street at Shipeolu Street, was in April, last year caught and arrested in his house with different incriminating evidences recovered from his possession by the police. To his surprised, the evidences against suspect proofed that he was involved with another married man known as Olalekan Animashaun who lives in Shodimu Street, close to us here and other guys that comes to his apartment “Imagine a married man with a family engaging in such disgraceful act as it shows how far this immoral act has gone deep in this community” he added.

A woman, who only identified herself as Sherifat, stated the state government need to arrest the situation to avoid spreading of immorality in the community. As a resident of Shomolu, she raised concern that the rate at which homosexuality was gaining ground is becoming alarming and government must wake up to her responsibility.

On the treatment melted out to the gay suspects in the community on valentine’s day, Sherifat expressed satisfaction on the development that people also needs to do everything possible to prevent the spread of this unholy act adding that, the government needs to be more strict on their action against this satanic act.

In the same vein, an Islamic cleric, Alfa Balogun, expressed displeasure against the homosexual act in the area, he stated young men and women need to shun the act of homosexuality if they want the mercy of God. He further opined that any person or group suspected of any unusual behaviors or relationship should be exposed as such practices is against the values of Islam and it will surely invite the wrath of God on the men and women involved in this immorality.

The cleric also advised the state government to partner with all local government areas of the state, especially the highly populated areas as Alimosho, Ikorodu, Mushin and Shomolu to educate the youths on the negative implications of engaging in homosexual activities.

Attempts by our correspondent to speak with Shomolu Divisional Police Officer on the issues prove abortive as he was not available answer questions.
