The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released the weather outlook for the month of December.
According to NiMet, most parts of the country will be dominated by the hot, dry Northeast (NE) Trade winds thus bringing more Harmattan Dust-Haze.
“The coastal Cities may experience patches of clouds in Hazy Weather.
“Daytime temperatures are expected to rise and may lead to Heat Stress, while cold night time temperatures are also anticipated,” the agency stated.
As more dust in the atmosphere is anticipated in the month, vulnerable persons especially those with respiratory ailments have, therefore, been advised to take necessary precautions.
“Cold nights are expected. So, elderly people and children should wear protective clothing.
“With expected high daytime temperatures, there is a likelihood of heat stress occurring, we advise person stay out of the sun where possible, wear loose clothing and keep cool as much as possible.
“The general public is advised to wear sunshades and hats during the daytime and apply sunscreen where possible to protect the scorching and bright sunlight.
“Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
“The Harmattan Dust-Haze can cause dryness of the skin, chapped lips, eye irritation and respiratory problems, so we advise the necessary precaution is taken.
“Airline operators should get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning as Dust-Haze which could reduce horizontal visibility to below minimal during this period,” NiMet stated.
