The Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act without delay.
Governor Adeleke spoke during the passing out parade of the officers of the corps on Saturday in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, added that the act becoming law would ensure peace and unity in the country.
According to him, the signing of the act into law would go a long way toward providing employment for a large number of unemployed youths, the governor said.
“I call on the Nigerian Peace Corps to unite in forming a common front towards achieving the mandate upon which it is being established.
“The new officer cadets should show discipline and focus when discharging their various duties anywhere they might be posted to.”
The Commandant General of the Nigerian Peace Corps, Dr Mustapha Abubakar, thanked President Buhari for agreeing to give assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Act.
“I charge the new cadets to make time for personal development, which would go a long way in adding value to their services in the NPC,” he said.
The Ooni of Ife had earlier donated land to the corps for its training school in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
