Police and protesters clashed outside the Israeli embassy in Mexico, with the Mexicans kicking against the country’s military offensive in the southern Gazan city of Rafah.
Protesters concealed their identities and hurled stones at the riot police in retaliation to their crackdown against the protest by obstructing their way to the compound and tear-gassing them.
Around 200 people joined the “Urgent Action for Rafah” demonstration, about 30 of whom started to break down barriers preventing them from reaching the Israeli mission.
A clash with law enforcement ensued when a group of demonstrators attempted to dismantle the barriers obstructing their access to the diplomatic mission.
There were unverified reports of several people injured in the chaos.
It would be recalled that Mexico, on Tuesday, filed an intervention declaration in South Africa’s case accusing Israel of “genocide” at the International Court of Justice.
Similar protests were observed throughout the world following Sunday evening’s Israeli attack on a refugee camp in Rafah, considered as a safe zone, which killed at least 50 people.
However, Police officers deployed to the protest ground sprayed tear gas and threw back the stones hurled at them by protesters.
The demonstration was called in response to an Israeli strike which ignited an inferno in a displacement camp outside Rafah, killing 45 people according to Palestinian officials.
