BREAKING: Nigeria confirms 220 new cases of COVID-19, toll now 2388

Nigeria has recorded 220 new cases of Covid-19, taking its total figures to 2,388 while the number of deaths recorded from the pandemic rose to 85.

According to the figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Saturday, Lagos came back to the top, with 62 new cases of the pandemic, while the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja ramps up 52 new infections.

Also, Kaduna State recorded high new infections, with 31 new cases; Sokoto, 13; Kebbi, 10; Yobe, nine; Borno, six; Edo and Bauchi, five cases each; while Gombe, Enugu and Oyo have four new cases each.

Others are: Zamfara, two; Nasarawa, two; Osun, two; Ebonyi, two; Kwara, two, Kano, two and Plateau, two.

“A total of 220 new cases of #COVID19 were recorded on Saturday. There are now 2,388 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. Discharged: 385; Deaths: 85,” NCDC said on its website.

However, Kano, which recorded the highest figures of 90 covid-19 infections on Friday, only has two new cases.

Death rates

According to the Centre’s COVID-19 Situation Dashboard on its website, COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in Lagos and 17 other states (FCT inclusive).

The total number of coronavirus deaths reported in Lagos State as of May 2, was 30, the highest in the country.

Borno and Sokoto States followed with 11 and eight fatalities respectively while Kano and Katsina State have recorded six deaths each.

Abuja, as well as Edo and Osun States, have recorded three deaths each.

Also, two coronavirus patients have died in each of Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States while Ekiti, Kaduna, Zamfara, Yobe and Jigawa States have also recorded one fatality each.
