Call to Bar: 161 out of 4000 new wigs bagged First Class – Dalhatu

Chairman of the Body of Benchers Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu has said that 161 students out of 4000 who graduated from the Nigeria Law School nationwide in the 2017/18 academic year came out with first class honours.

He made the disclosure during the 2018 call to bar ceremony organised by the Body of Benchers of Nigeria for the new wigs at the International Conference Center Abuja.

In an address, Dalhatu thanked God Almighty for sparing the lives of members of the bench and the legal profession and welcomed all to the call to bar ceremony. He also used the occasion to congratulate those called to the bar for their training.

After the call to bar in which each of the 4000 graduands of the Nigeria Law School were called out for enrollment into the bar, he informed that 161 out of the total number of 4000 new wigs graduated with first class honours in the one year training.

He said that the Body of Benchers had thoroughly screened all of them and found them worthy to be admitted to the bar.

According to him, new wigs are qualified lawyers in all sense of the word.

He further used the occasion to congratulate parents for the success story of their wards and for the relentless sacrifice they made in their lives.

He added body of benchers will not relent in the training and instilling of discipline on the new wigs.

He also commended the Council of Legal Education for their efforts in training the new wigs and expressed hope that the Nigeria Law School will continue to maintain its standard.

He said: “this is the first time that the law school will be producing 161 first class graduates in one academic year”.

The Chairman also hinted that the Body of Benchers is also saddled with the responsibility of maintaining discipline within the legal profession.
