The Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, Rt. Rev. Cyril Odutemu has been elected Archbishop of the Province of Bendel by the House of Bishops of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Rt. Rev. Odutemu, now to be known and addressed as Your Grace, Most Rev., was elected Archbishop of the Province at the annual retreat of the Bishops of the church held at the Ibru International Ecumenical Centre in Delta State of Nigeria.
The election by the House of Bishops was chaired by the Most Revd Nicholas Dikeriehi Okoh, the Primate and Metropolitan of the Church of Nigeria Anglican.
Archbishop Odutemu, who was recently appointed by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the Chairman of Delta State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, was consecrated Bishop at the Cathedral at Asaba.
He was consecrated Bishop by the Primate and Metropolitan of the Church of Nigeria along with other Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of Nigeria on 12th of September 2010.
Ughelli Diocese was thrown into a festive mood when now Most Rev. Odutemu was enthroned as the second bishop of the Diocese at the All Saints Cathedral, Iwhreko Street, Ughelli on Friday 17th of December 2010.
He took over the mantle of leadership of the Diocese from his predecessor, Rt. Rev. Vincent Muoghereh and exercises his full Episcopal overseership over the Diocese, until he is now also the Archbishop of the Bendel Province.
At the annual retreat, an episcopal synod was held in which Odutemu was elected Archbishop along with Suffragans, Bishops and another Archbishop to fill vacant positions in the Church in and outside Nigeria.
The Bishops elected are Rev. Canon Cletus Kpangbari for the Diocese of Gombe and Rev Canon Benson for the Diocese of Awgu Aninri.
The Archbishops elected are Rt. Rev. Ibrahim Makus, Bishop of Yola for the Province of Jos, and Odutemu.
The two Suffragans elected for the Anglican Diocese of the West (CANA WEST) are The Venerable Dr. Scott Seely and The Venerable Celestine Ironna.
