Court remands Benue lecturer in prison for raping 13-year-old girl

The Chief Magistrate Court ‘1’, Makurdi, on Thursday remanded a 51-year-old senior lecturer in the Department of Catering and Hotel Management, Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Mr. Andrew Ogbuja, in the prison custody.
The lecturer who was earlier charged for the rape of a 13-year-old home help, Elizabeth Ochanya, was yesterday arraigned for a fresh charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

The court heard that the lecturer Andrew and his son Victor Ogbuja allegedly raped Ochanya for three years.
She died on October 17 due to Vesico Vagina Fistula (VVF) complications at the at Federal Medical Center, Makurdi.
Chief Magistrate Isaac Ajim, however, declined to entertain the matter for lack of jurisdiction to hear the charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide preferred against the accused by the Nigerian Police and remanded the lecturer at the Federal Medium Prison, Makurdi.
He adjourned the case to November 29 for further mention.
