Culture, capacity building key in tackling cyber crime – IT expert

An Information Technology expert, Mr Jide Awe on Tuesday identified culture and capacity building as key in tackling cyber security in Nigeria.

Awe, who made this known in Lagos on Tuesday, noted that the current cyber protection culture needed to be changed.

“Cyber protection has become a major element of national security as cyber crime grows, new trends emerges.

“The level of capacity building for cyber protection in Nigeria needs to be improved significantly,’’ Awe, who is also the Conference Committee Chairman, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) said.

He, however, urged the Federal Government on proper implementation of the Cyber Security Strategy Act in order to achieve its objectives.

The expert insisted that for government to enhance strategic capacity there was the need to deepen public awareness both in social and traditional media.

He said that for cyber crime to be tackled, government must also invest in infrastructure, broadband tools and labs, among others.
