Delta Assembly approves 13-day leave for Gov. Okowa; Otuaro to act as governor

The Delta State House of Assembly has approved a 13-day leave for the state’s Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, commencing from October 30, 2017 to November 11, 2017.

This is following a request letter the Gov. Okowa forwarded to the house in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The letter directed Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro to act as governor.

“In accordance with section 190(1) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, His Excellency, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, shall perform the duties of my office as Acting Governor during the period of my absence of leave.

“I will greatly appreciate if the foregoing is placed before the Honourable House for information. Please accept the assurance of my high regard and best wishes for you and the Honourable Members of the House,” the letter read in part.

The letter, which was read to the House by the Speaker, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, stated that the leave was a remainder of the earlier leave the governor embarked on between June 26 and July 12, 2017.

Deputy Majority leader, Oboro Preyor moved for the approval of the letter, and it was seconded by Eric Oharisi before it was adopted.
