The Vice Chancellor, Prof Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), a university based in Rumuolumeni Port Harcourt, Rivers State has urged his students to stop insulting over online learning directed by the Minister of Education.

VC Ndimele said that he has a way to get the culprits, especially those referring to him as ‘mumu man’, and punish them, but that he has forgiven the students responsible.

“I do not know of any VC in Nigeria who interacts with his students on the social media the way the VC of IAUE does. Could it be why some students find it easy to insult me, including calling me mumu man?

“The directive for all tertiary institutions in Nigeria to restart the 2019/2020 session through the online mode did not emanate from me. It came from the Hon. Minister for Education, and we were all asked to comply, even though we grumbled knowing the challenges inherent. Should I have refused to comply? And do you know the consequences of that disobedience? Should all schools resume online, while IAUE remains at home? What will be the implications of this to our students?

“The Minister promised to reconvene all VCs at his convenience to get feedback on the e-learning. The Commissioner of Education also promised to visit us by the 2nd week in May to see how we are coping. Should we not start, so that we can share experiences with them, and then seek his further directive?

“Stop insulting me. You know I have a way to get the culprits and punish them. But I have forgiven them for they do not know what they are doing.

“Remember the Biblical axiom which says “Honour your father and your mother, so that your days will be long”. Every elder of your community is your father/mother,” Ndimele stated.
