The new Managing Director of Ignite Media Group, Kayode Akintemi on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Minister for Information, Kojo Oppon-Nkrumah on how the media group can partner with the government to best tell the Ghanaian and African story to the rest of the world.
Speaking during his visit to Oppon-Nkrumah, Mr. Akintemi disclosed that Ignite Media Group – owners of Original 91.9FM; Metro TV has special interest in developmental journalism and as such, ready to partner with Akufo-Addo led government to push agenda that will effect positive changes in the country.
His words: It is extremly important that developmental journalism has got to be the direction that we go, and that means that we have to tell government what we feel the people are saying and when government does something right, we have to also report, so that there is an appreciation of the achievements of the government’s works so that everything is not focused on the opposition perspective of ‘nothing is ever good’. We feel very strongly that we are partners with government in progress; help the ministry of information and the government of Nana Akufo-Addo”
In a simialr vein, Oppon-Nkrumah assured the Ignite Media executives that Ghana is open for business and perfect place to drive a pan-African agenda.
He added, “What is our responsibility, do we want to instill fear or despair within the society or do we want sow a seed of hope and possibility in the society, in the conversation of responsibility media should look at how to build up our children, the young ones and our society; welcome ones again, for us our doors are open and we have a couple of programmes we also do to tell the government’s stories and take feedback from the public.”
