A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Iliyasu Kwankwaso, has cautioned Nigerians to stop politicising security issues.
Kwankwaso noted that the politicisation of security matters was hindering smooth progress in the fight against insecurity by the federal government.
He gave the advice while addressing newsmen in Kano, commending the efforts of the ministry of Defense in supporting the military relocation to Sokoto.
He expressed sadness over how some “political jobbers” engaged in causing rift between the former Zamfara Governor Bello Matawalle and the member representing Birnin Magaji/Kauran Namoda Federal Constituency, Aminu Sani Jaji.
The APC chieftain also praised the efforts of Matawalle announcing a reward of N20 million to whosoever gives fruitful information that will lead to the arrest of the bandits.
He said: “Initially, people were condemning the defense ministry for inaction, and now that steps have been taken for the fight against the terrorists, the same people are condemning the ministry. This is very hypocritical.
“Those engaging in this act are beneficiaries of the terrorism that is killing our people out there, that is why they have turned the matter into politics.”
Kwankwaso queried: “People are being killed by these terrorists, and the situation had gone bad, now that the ministry has taken steps towards dealing with the situation, to the extent that about 80 terrorists were killed yesterday, why would any right thinking person come out to condemn the action?
“I want to call on our people to please join hands together and support the efforts of the government in this fight against terrorism put in place by President Bola Tinubu.
“We should support the efforts of the defense ministry as well as the military to achieve the needful,” he appealed.
He further averred that those criticising the federal government’s giant steps in the area of security were only interested in blackmailing the president, with political interest in 2027, which he noted, is not in the interest of the nation.
He also called on northerners to desist from the act of attacking themselves needlessly, as, according to him, that was hindering development in the region.
