Stop slaughtering sick, dead animals for peoples’ consumption – Monarch cautions butchers

The Chun-Mada of Mada in Nasarawa State, Mr Samson Gamu-Yare has cautioned butchers in the area against slaughtering sick or dead animals for sale to members of the public.

Gamu-Yare gave the advice on Wednesday during the coronation and presentation of appointment letter to the new leader of the Butchers Association of Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.

The first class monarch also advised butchers to always keep their abattoirs clean to safeguard the health of their customers and for the overall development of the state.

The Monarch noted that increase in the outbreak of diseases caused by consumption of contaminated beef was alarming, hence the need for adequate awareness and sensitisation.

He also stressed the need for people in the area to live in peace with one another.

“As a traditional ruler, it is our role to advise our subjects and other Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliation because peace is the necessary requirement for the development of any society,

“I also want to use this medium to appeal to butchers to always keep their abattoirs clean, as a clean environment will always attract more customers and safeguard the health of the people,’’ he said.

The first class traditional ruler expressed his readiness to continue to initiate programmes that would promote peace in the area and the state at large.

Responding, Mr Lawal Abdullahi, the new leader of the association promised to ensure that the butchers slaughter healthy animals for consumption as well as maintain hygienic environment.

The highlight of the event was the official decoration and presentation of appointment letter to the new leader of the butchers in the area.
