Flamingos forward, Opeyemi Ajakaye won the player of the match award in Nigeria’s 4-0 thrashing of New Zealand at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup on Friday.
Though she didn’t register a goal in the game, Ajakaye put up a spectacular display all through.
Ajakaye has been in spectacular form right from the qualifying series notching up a series of goals to help Nigeria’s team qualification easy.
Bankole Olowookere’s side scored twice in the first half through Aminat Bello and Miracle Usani to lead 2-0 in the first half of the group B encounter.
Taiwo Tewogboola and Etim Edidiong added two more goals late in the second half to complete the rout.
The Flamingos lost their first game in the competition by 2-1 to Germany.
The Nigerian girls are presently occupying the second position in group B and will take on Chile in their final group game next week Monday.
The Flamingos are looking to better their 2014 quater-final performance at the India 2022 FIFA World Cup.
