British singer, Elton John, has been announced as the first star to perform at Glastonbury Festival 2023.
Glastonbury Festival is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place in Pilton, Somerset, England. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts.
The 75-year-old singer (Elton) was the first headlining artist announced for the festival on Friday, with Elton set to take the Pyramid stage next summer.
Speaking of Friday’s announcement, Elton said: ‘I couldn’t be more excited to headline the Pyramid Stage. As my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour draws to a close, there is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans. They have been beyond brilliant and have supported me through all the ups and downs of my career.
“I talk to new artists on my radio show every week and Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers – the festival’s genuine and enthusiastic support for the best emerging talent is something I have long admired.
“I’ve been talking to Emily Eavis about it for the past few weeks and I can’t wait to get into the spirit of the world’s biggest festival. It’s going to be incredibly emotional,” Elton asserted.
Glastonbury co-organizer, Emily Eavis, said: “I am delighted to inform you that the one and only Elton John will be making his first Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night next year.
“This will be the last UK show of Elton’s final tour, so we’re closing the Festival and marking this great moment in our stories with the mother of all goodbyes. We are so happy to finally bring Rocket Man to Worthy Farm!.”
