FIA elects Nigerian lawyer head of Ethics Committee.

The Ethics Committee of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, FIA has elected a Nigerian as the first African President of its Ethics Committee.

Senior lawyer, Michael Ango became the first ever Nigerian to occupy such a lofty position at FIA.

His election was announced by the FIA president, Dr Mohammed Ben Sulayem, during the General Assembly of FIA in Italy,  in what amounted to another remarkable accomplishment for Nigerian Motorsports.

The election highlighted the rising profile of Nigeria in international Motor Sports as shown by the ratification of another Nigerian, Denen Ikya, as a member of the committee.

Ango and Ikya will join three other prominent members from Brazil, USA and Canada to execute their new roles at FIA.

Ishaku Bamaiyi, the  President of Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria has described the election of the Nigerian as a welcome development and a major milestone for the organizatio, Nigeria and by extension Africa as a whole.

According to him, these kind of great things will put the country as a force to be reckoned with in the comity of nations.

He said, “This is a culmination of the efforts of ATCN to put Nigeria on the global map of Automobile Mobility and Tourism and World Motor Sport,” Bamaiyi said.

“Ango and Ikya were elected on merit and in order to deepen the knowledge and resource base of FIA in line with the vision of the president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, to make FIA, a knowledge-led federation with world-class governance, to empower clubs, members and the World Councils.”
