A total of 250 graduates in Anambra have qualified for agriculture loan under the FADAMA programme.
Mr Chuks Egbueh, the Coordinator of FADAMA in Anambra, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Awka on Wednesday.
Egbueh said that a total of 400 graduates applied for the loan following a directive from FADAMA National Office for nationwide online application from graduates to be empowered in agriculture.
He said that the 250 graduates met the requirements for the loan, which included that the beneficiary must live in Anambra State.
He listed the other requirements to include that the beneficiary must have a land and be between 18 years and 35 years.
The coordinator told NAN that Anambra still had 50 slots to be filled.
He noted that the state was given 300 slots.
“It was advertised on national dailies on May 4 to help graduates interested in agriculture.
Egbueh expressed dissatisfaction that only old people were interested in agriculture, saying that the loan scheme was aimed at attracting the youth to agriculture.
“This scheme is to make young graduates to get involved in agriculture to boost food production,” he said.
